HP, also known as health points, is an attribute. HP is recovered over time or can be instantly restored with a Potion or Hi-Potion.

Maximum HP[]

When a character's maximum HP is drained by one of the methods below, they can only be healed up to their diminished maximum HP value. To restore a character's maximum HP, they must rest at a haven or lodging, or use an expensive consumable item. If a character's maximum HP hits zero, the character dies. If this happens to Noctis, there are only a few seconds to use a recovery item, like Phoenix Down, before the player is taken to the Game Over screen. Characters revived with a recovery item have a very low maximum HP.

Danger status[]

If a character's HP gets to zero, the character goes into Danger status where no actions can be performed and only items can be accessed. The character will move slowly and the maximum HP will gradually diminish. If the character continues to take hits, it will drain the maximum HP further. To recover from Danger status, a character can use a recovery item, be assisted by another party member, or keep from getting hit long enough for the HP to restore itself.

Daemons[]

Daemons are able to reduce both the current and maximum HP of a character simultaneously. They can be found roaming at night and in dark environments like tombs and tunnels.
